Several entrances
A town hall with a main door, a side door and a lift from the car park needs one answer to the question of how many people are inside.
Vicodis Zone links several Axis cameras into one site. Each satellite camera counts its entrance; the master camera collects their counts, shows all entrances in one dashboard and turns them into one building occupancy figure, a zone overview and one capacity limit for the whole site.
Each camera runs the Vicodis Visitor Counter base licence and counts its own door. Zone adds the link between them — multi-camera people counting with one result.
A town hall with a main door, a side door and a lift from the car park needs one answer to the question of how many people are inside.
Exhibition halls, floors or sections that each need their own figure, while the building total still adds up.
Fire safety rules set the capacity for the whole building, not for each door. Zone checks the limit where it applies.
Master and satellite cameras run the same Vicodis app — the role is a setting, not a different product. One camera becomes the master, the others report to it.
The building occupancy figure is the sum of everything that happens at the outside doors — no matter how many there are.
Each camera watches one passage between two areas — for example from outside into the foyer, or from the foyer into hall A. A crossing books −1 in one area and +1 in the other.
Only crossings to and from outside change the total for the building. Movement between inner zones updates the zones without counting anyone twice.
The master shows every zone as a tile with its current figure, its own capacity and its own traffic light, next to the total for the building.
A full-screen zone overview fits the whole site onto one monitor — for a control room, an information desk or the security team. Tiles you do not need on that screen can be hidden without affecting the counting.
You set one capacity for the building and, if needed, one for each zone. The traffic light on the master follows the building total, so the signal at every entrance shows the same state.
The master can switch a camera output, an Axis siren and light or an HTTP device when the limit is reached. How live occupancy and capacity limits work in general is explained on occupancy monitoring with a live capacity limit.
Zone needs no server and no internet — but the cameras must always be able to find each other.
The master reaches each satellite over the camera’s standard web port. No extra port, no internet connection.
Every satellite needs a static IP address or a DHCP reservation, so the master always finds it.
All cameras use the same NTP server and time zone, so the figures of every door line up.
The connection between master and satellites can run over HTTPS. The master signs in with a user account you create on each satellite.
Zone is an add-on to the base system, paid once like every Vicodis licence. All figures are on prices for Vicodis.
Master and satellites each run the Visitor Counter licence, bound to their own MAC address.
Only the master needs the Zone add-on. Satellites need nothing extra.
If satellites use a further module, for example Vehicle, the master needs it too, so it can process their figures.
One master combines up to 32 satellite cameras and up to 32 named zones. Every satellite counts one passage between two areas, and any number of cameras can book into the same zone. For most buildings, a handful of satellites at the outside doors is enough to produce one occupancy figure.
No. The master is one of your Axis cameras, not a separate server, and it talks to the satellites over your local network only. Neither the master nor the satellites need an internet connection. All counts and the zone overview stay inside the building and are opened in a normal web browser.
The satellite keeps counting on its own and stores its figures locally. The master marks it as offline after three failed polls and shows since when. Once the connection is back, the master picks up the satellite’s running totals, so crossings made during the outage are not lost from the site figure.
Every camera needs the base licence, and the master additionally needs the Zone add-on licence. If satellites use another module, for example Vehicle, the master needs that module as well, otherwise it cannot process their figures. All licences are bound to their camera and paid once; the figures are on the pricing page.
Yes. The zone overview shows the building total and every named zone with its own figure, capacity and traffic light, and each satellite still keeps its own entry and exit counts. You can therefore answer both questions: how many people are inside right now, and which door they used.
