Vicodis Vehicle: vehicle counting on the camera

Vicodis Vehicle turns an Axis camera into a vehicle counting camera. A counting line counts every vehicle that crosses it, keeps cars, trucks, buses and two-wheelers apart and does all of it on the device — on a busy street as well as at the gate of a car park.

  • Vehicle counting for Axis cameras with AXIS Object Analytics
  • Count vehicles by class, not as one total
  • One add-on licence for traffic and car parks

Applications

Two applications, one licence

The counting is the same in both cases. What differs is the question you ask of the figures: how much traffic passes, or how many spaces are left.

Streets and roads

Traffic volume

Vicodis Traffic

Counts the vehicles on a street per direction and class — for city centres, access roads, delivery zones and the before-and-after of a traffic measure.

  • Vehicle counts per direction, in 5-minute intervals
  • Calendar, reports and CSV for planning
  • No speed measurement, no licence plates

Occupancy

Vicodis Parking

Counts arrivals and departures at the gates and derives the number of free spaces for a sign, a screen or a website.

  • Free spaces with a configurable threshold
  • Display output and live endpoint for signage
  • A counting system, not a guidance system

Vehicle classes

Vehicle classes kept apart

AXIS Object Analytics tells the vehicle classes apart, and Vicodis keeps them apart in the count. You see what drove past, not just how many.

CarsPassenger cars
TrucksLorries and goods vehicles
BusesCoaches and city buses
Two-wheelersMotorbikes and bicycles
Other vehiclesVehicles without a clear class

Only the classes you enable in the counting scenario are counted. Two-wheelers cover motorbikes and bicycles together.

How it counts

Vehicle counting software that runs inside the camera

Vicodis is vehicle counting software installed as an app on the camera itself. You draw the counting line in AXIS Object Analytics, the camera’s own analytics, and give it one counting scenario per direction. Vicodis turns the running totals of those scenarios into 5-minute figures and stores them on the camera.

From there the figures go to the dashboard, the calendar, CSV reports and an open REST interface. No server, no cloud account and no image ever leaves the device.

Licensing

One add-on licence for both applications

Vicodis Vehicle is an add-on to the base system, paid once and bound to the camera. It covers traffic counting and car park counting alike. All figures are on prices for Vicodis.

+

Vehicle on top

One add-on unlocks vehicle classes and the vehicle view, whether the camera watches a street or a car park gate.

No running fees

No subscription and no cloud charges. Outdoors, the Outdoor PRO camera kit is the usual choice.

FAQ

Questions about Vicodis Vehicle

01

Do I need separate licences for traffic and parking?

No. Vicodis Vehicle is one add-on licence that covers both applications. Whether a camera counts the traffic on a street or the arrivals and departures of a car park is a setting in the dashboard, not a different product. Every camera also needs the Visitor Counter base licence.

02

Which vehicle classes does the camera tell apart?

AXIS Object Analytics distinguishes cars, trucks, buses, two-wheelers and other vehicles, and Vicodis counts each class separately. Two-wheelers cover motorbikes and bicycles together; the camera does not separate them. Only the classes you enable in the counting scenario are counted, so a site can leave out two-wheelers entirely.

03

Can one camera count people and vehicles?

Yes. A camera can count pedestrians and vehicles over the same counting line and keeps both figures apart, for example on a street where the pavement is in view or at a driveway that pedestrians also use. People are counted with the base licence, vehicles with the Vehicle add-on.

04

Which cameras are suitable?

Any Axis camera with a deep learning processor that runs AXIS Object Analytics, which means ARTPEC-9, ARTPEC-8 and CV25 models. Outdoors we recommend the Outdoor PRO kit with the AXIS P3275-LVE, which has infrared for counting after dark. We check the planned view with you before you buy.
