Fixes and improvements end. Problems that appear later stay unsolved.
Support for AXIS People Counter ends on 31 December 2028. What the end of life means for existing installations, and how to migrate from AXIS People Counter on the same cameras where possible.
AXIS People Counter has counted visitors on Axis cameras for many years, in shops, museums and public buildings. Its end of life is announced: support ends on 31 December 2028. AXIS People Counter end of life does not mean the counters stop on that day — it means they are no longer maintained.
For sites whose figures go into reports, contracts or funding applications, that date is a planning deadline. Budgets, tenders and installation work all take time.
Fixes and improvements end. Problems that appear later stay unsolved.
Compatibility with future camera firmware is no longer assured, which can block security updates.
Tools and processes that read from the counter need a successor that delivers the same data.
| Stays | Changes |
|---|---|
| The camera, if it has a deep-learning unit | The counting app: Vicodis instead of AXIS People Counter |
| The mounting position above the door | Counting lines are drawn in AXIS Object Analytics |
| Your network and camera accounts | A new dashboard with live view, calendar and reports |
| Reporting that fetches data from the camera | The address it fetches from |
| Counting without a cloud service | Licensing: one licence per camera, paid once |
Whether a camera can stay depends on its chip. Cameras with a deep-learning processing unit that run AXIS Object Analytics — ARTPEC-9, ARTPEC-8 and CV25 — run Vicodis in the same position. Older cameras without such a unit cannot, and are replaced.
The new counting line goes close to the door frame again; the steps are in installing and aiming the camera. The app itself is the Vicodis Visitor Counter.
Your history stays where it is today — in your reporting and your exports. Vicodis starts counting on the day it is installed. Reporting tools that fetch data from the camera can continue, because Vicodis offers a data pickup interface in the formats of the classic people counter; only the address changes.
A push to AXIS Store Data Manager is not supported. The details are on replacing discontinued Cognimatics people counters.
Support ends on 31 December 2028. Installed counters are not expected to stop on that day, but they no longer receive fixes or updates, and compatibility with future camera firmware is not assured. Sites that rely on the figures should plan the move early enough to fit budgets, tenders and installation work.
Often yes. If the camera has a deep-learning processing unit and runs AXIS Object Analytics — ARTPEC-9, ARTPEC-8 or CV25 — Vicodis is installed on the same camera in the same position. Older cameras without such a unit cannot run Vicodis and are replaced, for example with one of our camera kits.
Reports that fetch data from the camera can keep working. Vicodis offers a data pickup interface in the formats of the classic people counter, so existing tools only need the new address. A push to AXIS Store Data Manager is not supported; in that case reports move to Vicodis exports or your own server.
