Context

The situation

Not every store can or wants to use a cloud analytics platform. Some belong to groups whose IT policy forbids outbound connections from the store network. Some are pharmacies, opticians or shops in public buildings with strict data protection rules. Many simply want to know how many people came in, without another monthly contract.

For these stores, plain and dependable entrance counting is the whole requirement. Where a checkout queue or a screen in the window matters as well, Vicodis Queue measures waiting times and Vicodis for digital signage counts who stops in front of the screen. If you need shopper analytics beyond that, a cloud analytics platform is the better choice.

Purpose

What the data is used for

Visitor numbers next to your own sales figures, in your own tools. The CSV export opens in Excel and imports into Power BI; scheduled email reports bring the week’s figures to the store manager. Why none of this needs a cloud is set out in people counting without cloud, server or internet.

  • Staffing by hour and weekday.
  • Opening hours that match real visits.
  • Campaigns and events compared week by week.

Installation notes for this environment

Store entrances are often glass fronts with security gates and displays nearby. Place the counting line just inside, behind the anti-theft gates, and keep moving displays out of the camera’s view around the line.

Staff use the same door as customers and are counted like everyone else — Vicodis does not know who anyone is.

  • Line behind the anti-theft gates
  • Wide dynamic range for glass fronts
  • One camera per store entrance
  • CSV or email report per store
FAQ

Questions from retailers

01

Can a small chain compare its stores?

Yes, through your own reporting. Each store counts on its own camera and exports its figures as CSV or sends them by email, so you combine the stores in Excel, Power BI or your merchandise system. Vicodis deliberately runs no central portal, which keeps every store’s data inside its own network.

02

Is there a monthly fee?

No. The licence is paid once per camera and never expires, and there is no cloud or platform fee. The only optional recurring item is Vicodis Care for support, which is included in the first year and never renews automatically. All figures are on the pricing page.

03

Are employees counted as well?

Yes. Vicodis counts everyone who crosses the line and does not know who anyone is, so staff walking through the customer entrance are included. Where staff use a separate door without a counting line, they are not counted. That is the trade-off of counting without identifying anyone.

How many visitors does your entrance really have?
