How Vicodis works, from camera to report
The app runs on the camera, you draw the counting lines yourself, the figures stay local and you pull them out as a report, an export or an API call. Five steps, from camera to report — no server anywhere in between.
The app runs on the camera
Vicodis is an ACAP application — the Axis format for apps that run inside the camera. You install it on the camera’s Apps page like any other Axis app. There is no server to set up, no PC software and no cloud account.
- One package, installed in the camera’s web interface
- Licence key pasted once, checked on the camera
- Same app for single cameras, masters and satellites
You draw the counting lines
The people counting setup happens in AXIS Object Analytics: you draw a line into the camera image, close to the door frame, and set the direction. In Vicodis you then select the lines by name and enter the capacity. That is the whole counting line configuration. The terms are explained in the people counting glossary.
Mounting height, aiming and line placement are covered in installing and aiming the camera.
The camera counts and stores
The camera’s deep-learning unit detects people and vehicles and reports every crossing. Vicodis books the crossings in five-minute intervals into a database on the camera’s SD card or internal flash.
- Restart-safe. A reboot or power cut does not count anyone twice.
- Network-independent. Counting continues when the network is down.
- Self-correcting. An optional daily zero reset keeps the inside figure honest.
Live view and history in the browser
The dashboard is served by the camera itself and opens in any browser in your network. It shows the current figure with a capacity traffic light, the day so far, a calendar with every day, month and year, and a full-screen view for an entrance display.
Reports, exports and API
From the camera the figures go wherever you need them: as a CSV or PDF report for any period, as scheduled email reports through your own mail server, or through live endpoints for signage and your own systems. All interfaces are described on people counting API, exports and reports.
- CSV and PDF for any period
- Email reports via your own SMTP server
- JSON and plain-text live endpoints
- Compatible pickup for existing people counter reporting
What leaves the camera, and when
Images never. Counts only when you fetch them or set up a report. All five steps run on the Vicodis Visitor Counter, the base licence on every camera. For sites without any internet, see people counting without cloud, server or internet.
