Counts entries and exits
Every crossing of the counting line is booked as an entry or an exit and stored on the camera in five-minute intervals.
The Visitor Counter is the people counting app for Axis cameras at the heart of every Vicodis installation. It counts entries and exits at the door, shows how many visitors are inside right now and keeps the full history — on the camera, without a server.
This is ACAP people counting: the people counter app is installed on the camera like any other Axis application and does all of its work there. As visitor counter software it covers what almost every site needs.
Every crossing of the counting line is booked as an entry or an exit and stored on the camera in five-minute intervals.
Entries minus exits gives the number of visitors on site right now, compared against the capacity you set.
Day, month and year views with peak hours, so you can compare weeks, seasons and opening times.
In AXIS Object Analytics you draw the counting line straight into the camera image, close to the door frame. Vicodis reads the line events and turns them into entries and exits — the full path from camera to report is described in how Vicodis works.
Lines are set up once in AXIS Object Analytics and selected in the Vicodis settings by name.
Set the capacity once. The live view compares the number of visitors inside with that limit and shows the result as a traffic light anyone understands.
Open the live view full screen on a tablet or monitor at the entrance and it works as a simple entry display, with an optional sound when the state changes. The texts can be adapted to your site.
The same signal can also switch a camera output, an Axis siren and light or an HTTP device such as a relay.
Not every site closes before midnight. You decide when the counting day begins — at midnight or at any other time — so a night that runs from 8 pm to 4 am appears as one day in the calendar and in the reports, not split across two.
Separately, Vicodis can set the number of people inside back to zero once a day at a time you choose, for example before opening. Entries and exits already counted are never changed by this.
The figures belong to you and leave the camera only when you export them — as a file, a report or through a live endpoint.
Each day, month and year at a glance, down to the counts per interval and the peak of the day.
Any period as a CSV file for Excel or Power BI, or as a formatted PDF report for records and funding applications.
Vicodis can send reports on a schedule through your own SMTP server, so nothing is routed via us.
A documented REST interface delivers the live figure and the history to signage and your own dashboards.
Vicodis has no user database of its own. Who may open the dashboard is decided by the camera’s accounts, which your IT already manages — there is no extra password list and no account with us.
The Visitor Counter runs on Axis cameras with a DLPU that supports AXIS Object Analytics — including the cameras already on your wall.
There is no separate model approval list: if the camera runs AXIS Object Analytics on a deep-learning processing unit, it can run Vicodis. ARTPEC-9 is the preferred generation. If you are starting from scratch, the Vicodis camera kits combine a suitable camera with the licence.
How well a camera counts depends on four things: the mounting height, the lens angle of view, the width of the doorway and the lighting conditions.
One licence per camera, paid once. All figures are on prices for Vicodis.
Bound to the camera’s MAC address and signed against tampering. Included with every Vicodis camera kit.
No subscription and no expiry. Security updates are free; support and new versions come with Vicodis Care, never renewed automatically.
Run the full feature set on your own camera before you buy.
Try Vicodis for 30 days →Several entrances, one figure: a master camera combines the counts of several cameras and gives one capacity limit for the whole site.
Vicodis Zone in detail →The same camera approach for vehicles: traffic volume on streets, and free spaces in car parks, with vehicle classes kept apart.
Vicodis Vehicle in detail →No. The Visitor Counter is an ACAP application that is installed directly on the Axis camera and runs there. Counting, storage, the dashboard and the exports all live on the camera itself, so there is no server, no gateway and no extra software to maintain. A web browser in the same network is enough.
Usually yes, up to a point that depends on the installation. How wide a doorway one camera can cover is decided by the mounting height, the lens angle of view and the lighting. Higher mounting and a wider lens cover more width. For very wide entrances, two cameras feed one figure through Vicodis Zone.
Nothing is lost. The camera keeps counting and stores every figure on its own memory card or internal flash, whether the network is up or not. The dashboard simply shows the complete history again once you can reach the camera. The counts also survive a restart, because the last position is saved on the camera.
Yes. The number of people currently inside can be set to a fixed value at any time, and Vicodis can also reset it to zero automatically every day at a time you choose, for example before opening. Entries and exits already counted are not changed by either correction.
Yes. Each licence is issued for one specific camera and bound to its MAC address, so it cannot be copied to another device. It never expires, needs no renewal and is activated offline by pasting the key into the dashboard. Installing a newer app version keeps the existing licence valid.
