Closed camera networks
Video networks are often separated from the internet on purpose. A counting system that needs a connection would break that rule.
Some sites cannot allow a single outbound connection. Vicodis is an offline people counter: it runs entirely on the Axis camera, keeps the figures in your building and still gets them out — by export, API or your own mail server.
For many of our customers, “no cloud” is not a preference but a rule written into a security policy or a tender.

Authorities and public bodies often have to show where data is processed and who can access it. “Only on our camera” is the shortest answer.
No processor contract, no third-country transfer, no vendor account — there is simply nothing to sign off on the cloud side.
A remote entrance or a temporary site may have power but no connection at all. Counting must work anyway.
A local people counting system in the literal sense: every step happens on the device you own. The architectures are compared in on-camera counting compared to server-based video analytics.
| Function | Where it runs | Needs internet |
|---|---|---|
| Detecting people and vehicles | AXIS Object Analytics on the camera’s DLPU | no |
| Counting and storage | Vicodis on the camera, database on SD card or internal flash | no |
| Dashboard | Served by the camera, opened in a browser in your network | no |
| Licence check | Signed key, verified on the camera | no |
| Reports and exports | Generated on the camera, downloaded in your browser | no |
| Several cameras (Zone) | Master camera polls satellites in your local network | no |
People counting without internet means more than “no cloud”. Vicodis does not even load a font or a script from outside: the dashboard is built into the app, so it works in a network that has no route to the internet whatsoever.
The licence is a signed key that the camera checks itself. Time comes from your local NTP server, and updates are a package you upload yourself.
Offline does not mean locked in. All interfaces are described on people counting API, exports and reports.
Any period, downloaded in the browser — for Excel, Power BI or the archive.
JSON or plain text for signage and your own systems, read inside your network.
Vicodis can send daily, weekly or monthly reports through your own SMTP server.
The camera can push its figures to an address you choose — your server, not ours.
A cloud platform does some things more conveniently. If you need retail analytics across dozens of stores in one vendor portal, a cloud system is the right choice — and we will tell you so. For a single store that only needs its entrance figures, see retail counting without a cloud platform.
Why no image or identity is ever created is set out on people counting and the GDPR. The base product is the Vicodis Visitor Counter.
Not on its own. Vicodis makes no outbound connection to us or anyone else: no licence check, no telemetry, no update service. Data only leaves the camera when you set it up, for example scheduled reports through your own SMTP server or a push to your own web server.
You install them yourself. A new Vicodis version is a single package that you upload on the camera’s Apps page, just like the first installation. The licence and all counts stay in place during the update. Security updates are free for every licence; new feature versions and help with installing them come with Vicodis Care.
Yes, but through your own network rather than ours. Typical options are a VPN into the camera network, a push of the live figure to your own web server, or scheduled email reports through your own mail server. Vicodis itself runs no portal, so the way in is always one you control.
